Healthcare Engineering: Working to improve productivity and quality
Health care costs are an ever increasing burden but there are ways to use engineering ideas to reduce costs while maintaining quality while improving the system. Basic methods such as Lean and Six Sigma are very effective. Over recent years I have completed a variety of projects, courses and research papers. Here are some and links to the details:
Courses- Lean training for rural hospitals, funded by the California Hospital Association's FLEX grant
- Lean Healthcare Certification from the California Quality Consortium
- Advanced Lean and Six Sigma (A New Course for Professionals!)
- Physician leadership training from CHA
"Industrial Engineers have the best expertise to produce improvements in the efficiency of health care. They can work with providers to identify problems, recommend improvements and help implementing change." - David Belson, Ph.D.
